YBhg Datuk Ir Khairol Anuar bin Mohamad Tawi is the founder and Executive Chairman of KAT Group, Malaysia’s largest prepaid distributor. KAT Group started off in the year 1999 as a modest distribution company with just three employees. Today, KAT operates across fourteen offices in Malaysia’s major cities, employing over 200 staff nationwide. In the year 2015, KAT evolve into an international solutions provider, deploying its advanced end-to-end digital distribution platform in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. Under Datuk Khairol’s visionary leadership, the company has won numerous prestigious awards both locally and internationally, cementing its reputation as Malaysia’s leading digital distribution specialist in the retail and supply chain space.
Datuk Khairol has won numerous personal awards and accolades such as the Distinguished Entrepreneur award by Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB); Entrepreneur of The Year (Special Mention) award by The Star (a local Malaysian daily); and also Technology Entrepreneur by the Young Entrepreneur Organisation Malaysia (GMB). Prior to his entrepreneurial days, he successfully launched Malaysia’s first prepaid card service under the brand name UNIPHONEKAD. Datuk Khairol is also a certified Professional Engineer by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, IEM; and a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Management, MIM.
Outside KAT Group, Datuk Khairol had served as one of the Board of Directors for Melaka Trust Fund; National Sports Institute (ISN) Malaysia; and MAIM Holdings Berhad. He is currently one of Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) Board of Directors and was an active governing committee member of the Retail and F&B Productivity Nexus under the Malaysian Productivity Council (MPC) body. Datuk Khairol was also the Founding President of the Bumiputera Retailers Organisation (BRO). An ardent community builder, Datuk Khairol served as President of the Parents-Teachers Association of the highly regarded Sultan Alam Shah School in Putrajaya for three consecutive terms.
Datuk Khairol has an Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) from the University of Cranfield Institute of Management, United Kingdom. In 1994, he attended the Harvard Senior Management Development Programme, and subsequently became a member of the Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Malaysia. He holds a degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering class of 1981 from the Swansea University. In 2015, Datuk Khairol was awarded an Honorary Doctorate and Fellowship by the university.
