Dr. MAHABOOB BASHA was born in South India, Chennai(Madras). He started his career as a Diplomat in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (India/South Asia desk).  He also worked under United Nations on different missions including one on the worst affected South Asian Tsunami re-habitation project between 2004-2006 in Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia.  For his outstanding work he has been awarded a Commonwealth Civil Servant Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in the UK.

Dr Basha also served as an elected International Officer in the Students’ Union for two terms and also elected four times as NUS Wales Proceeding Committee Chairperson before he joined the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) in 2013. He was also awarded Welsh Sabbatical Student Officer of the year 2012-13 by the National Union for Students for his outstanding work and campaigning for international Students’ Welfare. Dr Basha is also working close with Swansea Alumni Association to establish new International Chapters all over the world as part of Swansea University Centenary 2020 celebrations. He is also Project Officer with responsibility for raising funds for Multi Faith Centre in Singleton and Bay Campus. He is co-founder of annual Swansea Faith week and Swansea International Festival which attracts more than 10,000 visitors which includes local school and college pupils to this event. In May, 2016 Dr Basha has been decorated with Mary Williams Award for his outstanding contribution to campus’ and wider community of South Wales and he is also first male recipient since inserted. Dr Basha also trained and practising Community First Responder (CFR) for the NHS-Wales Ambulance Service. In 2017, November Dr Basha joined Energy Safety Research Institute team as International Relations and Engagement Officer.

Dr Mahaboob Basha is married and blessed with a son and lives in Swansea.
